The
Kansas Dairy Commission was created by the state legislature
in 1995. Through K.S.A. 47-2301-06 the Commission is charged
with collecting and allocating money from a 3/4-cent per hundredweight
assessment on all milk produced in Kansas. The Kansas Dairy
Commission is designed and operates similar to other Kansas
agricultural commodity checkoff organizations. By law, money
collected from milk producers for the Kansas Dairy Commission
can only be spent on educational programs; dairy-related research;
and dairy product promotion. The Kansas Dairy Commission Board
of Directors has identified producer-oriented education and
research as the Commissions top priorities.
Kansas
Dairy Commission began collecting assessments on July 1, 1995.
